Motorola Mpx220 uses the Windows Mobile 2003 S.E. operating system and offers an integrated 1.3 Megapixel camera with flash LED and Bluetooth, which bring the device in line with the current Smartphone offering. The Motorola MPx220 is made entirely of plastic material, conveying a strong sense of sturdiness, as does the hinge, which is rigid and inflexible. In addition to the software package offered by Microsoft, Motorola has added a good set of productivity applications. Aside from the MMS and camera management package, there is Picsel's multiformat viewer, a Java Midlet Manager, as well as a voice recognition application.

Design notes: The right side hosts the IrDA port (not of the SIR type), the quick-start button for the camera, and the miniSD expansion slot, which was preferred over the Secure Digital slot (present in the MPx220) for space reasons. The left side hosts the 2.5" jack, located immediately above the hook for a carrying strap, the volume control buttons and the quick-start button for voice recognition (which we will discuss later), and the on/off button.
