Sharp GX10
Release year: 2002
GSM/GPRS of excellent overall build quality, well assembled, good both in hardware and software. Rich technological content: integrated camera, MMS, GPRS, Java and infrared (IrDA). Seriously missing, however, is the third band (present even on much cheaper phones), Bluetooth which is much more versatile than infrared, and an alarm clock that also works with the phone switched off!!! Considering the integrated camera, the dimensions and weight are very contained. The user interface and graphics are pleasant, very simple and intuitive, in a short time you become familiar with it. Audio quality is very good, both received and transmitted, with a sufficiently loud listening volume. Signal sensitivity is good, even if not excellent, despite the external antenna, somewhat weak on the 1800MHz band, with clearly better performance in reception and transmission on the 900MHz band.

Design and display
| Display | One of the strong points of this interesting GSM is definitely the large (approximately 4x4.5cm) internal display, graphic with high resolution (120x160 pixels) with as many as 65,536 colors. It is not the only display with so many colors but it is one of the few to have an active matrix (TFT) display; this particular matrix (now standard for laptops) makes the display particularly bright and the colors decidedly vivid. The backlighting of the display is also adjustable. External display 96 x 64 p. |

Feature notes: First of all, the GX 10 is a Dual Band 900/1800MHz terminal and therefore can only operate on European and Asian networks, unfortunately lacking the third band 1900MHz needed to operate in the USA, Canada and some South American countries. Another notable feature is support for the Java (J2ME) protocol for downloading new games and applications onto the phone itself. This latter function, which characterizes the GX 10, is not present on the more expensive and direct competitor Panasonic GD 87, a small point in its favor. GPRS class 10 (4+2), meaning it is equipped for data transmission and high-speed Internet connection (up to theoretical 57600 bps in reception and up to 28800 in data transmission).
