Xcute Mobile DV1 review
Network and connections
A compact and easy-to-handle phone, to carry with you at all times to meet every kind of need. First of all, this is a GSM Triband, capable of using the 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz frequencies. This way signal coverage is always optimal, even though there is no support for UMTS networks. However, it is possible to browse the Web, thanks to the internal modem with GPRS data traffic management. The WAP browser is thus able to easily open web pages. To connect directly to other compatible devices, you can use Bluetooth or the USB 2.0 data cable.
Design and features
As already mentioned, the dimensions of this Xcute Mobile DV1 are rather compact, precisely to guarantee the convenience needed for use in any situation. The weight is just 118 grams, with a thickness of 22.5 mm, absolutely normal considering that the body is not a single block, but rather opens in a clamshell fashion. The front outer part shows a 96x64 pixel OLED display, for viewing basic information when the phone is closed. Inside, on the other hand, there's the main screen, a 16.7 million color TFT, for sharp and bright images. Just below, the standard numeric keypad, along with a directional pad to better manage every function.
Main features
A phone capable of offering everything needed to manage personal data, from the contacts address book to the appointment calendar, as well as alarm clock and calculator. Support for predictive text input allows you to compose texts quickly, so you can also send EMS and multimedia messages. Java support allows you to expand the proprietary platform, so you can add compatible software and better customize your device. As for voice features, it offers hands-free mode, as well as the ability to record voice messages. It also supports voice-command calls and multi-conference calls.
Entertainment and multimedia
At first glance, what immediately stands out is the external camera, positioned crosswise with the clamshell hinge. It allows you to take photos at a resolution of 3 megapixels, for perfect images in any condition, thanks also to the integrated Zoom and Flash. To make the best use of the lens, it is possible to rotate the screen via a dedicated support mechanism; this way video recording will also be optimal. The available memory is 20 MB, further expandable via microSD memory cards. This means you can carry your favorite music with you, to be played back with the dedicated multimedia player. In addition, the TV-Out output allows you to project multimedia content directly onto an external screen. The battery, on the other hand, turns out to be a bit weak, with a battery life of only 150 hours in Stand-by.
