T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 review

Network and connections
A phone aiming at good success in a mid-range market segment. The Sidekick LX 2009 is equipped with a GSM Quadband network receiver with Dual Mode support, meaning it is also able to exploit UMTS frequencies. It is also a phone that allows browsing the Internet at good speed, thanks to the GPRS/EDGE modem. This way the HTML browser can open pages without any problems. Wi-Fi support is missing, however. Naturally, the classic Bluetooth and USB data output are present.

Design and features

Bold lines create distinction between the various parts of the front, rounding off at the edges to offer ergonomic grip. The dimensions stay in line with the average: 16.3 mm thick and 165 grams in weight. The upper part is occupied by a display as large as 3.2 inches. It has a distinctive lateral Slider movement, to free up the extended QWERTY keyboard inside. There are also function keys and a trackball that allow for optimal management of every operation.

Main features
The proprietary platform offers a wide choice of applications already in the standard configuration. Text writing is really fast, thanks to the extended keyboard. This way, composing short SMS messages or more detailed E-mails will be child's play, also handling Office and PDF attachments. The classic management tools such as the contacts address book and appointment organizer are complete. In addition, it is possible to manage your own Web spaces, such as MySpace or Facebook blogs directly on the go, as well as enjoy numerous other online contents such as YouTube and Instant Messaging. The built-in speakerphone offers good audio quality; multi-conference calls can also be made.

Entertainment and multimedia
The entertainment sector is also complete, thanks to the 3.2 megapixel camera. This way it is possible to obtain good quality photographs, to be touched up immediately with the dedicated adjustments. The dedicated functions are also varied, from Zoom to LED Flash and autofocus. The available memory is abundant, already 1 GB from the manufacturer. It can still be expanded up to 16 GB via microSD cards. This way it is possible to store music, videos and files in quantity. The multimedia player will take care of faithfully reproducing every format. The integrated GPS module is also present for satellite applications. Battery life is somewhat limited, though, much higher on devices in the same segment. With the Sidekick LX 2009 you can count on up to 192 hours of Stand-by.
