T-Mobile myTouch 3G review
Network and connections
HTC enters the American market with a product developed in collaboration with T-Mobile. It is the My Touch 3G, equipped with the Android operating system by Google. But let's start by describing its technical characteristics. This is a GSM Quadband device, capable of delivering incredible reliability in network coverage. This is also thanks to UMTS support, which allows the My Touch 3G to work in Dual Mode. Of course, optimization for Web browsing is not lacking, thanks to the fast HSDPA modem and the HTML browser. It is also possible to connect to distributed networks thanks to Wi-Fi support. The supports for connecting to other devices are absolutely convenient, such as Bluetooth and the USB 2.0 cable.
Design and features
Visually, this Smartphone immediately stands out as unusual, available in 3 trendy colors, with simple and well-studied lines. Everything seems to convey reliability and sturdiness, ergonomics and practicality of use. The upper part is occupied by the display, a 3.2-inch TFT, capable of displaying up to 65,000 colors. Just below are dedicated buttons for Internet functions, also convenient for managing the device thanks to the trackball. The dimensions are quite compact, 14.7 mm thick with a weight of 116 grams. For writing there is no physical keyboard, but a virtual one appears on the screen. In the sales package we can find earphones and a 4 GB microSD.
Main features
The T-Mobile My Touch 3G is geared towards Web browsing; that's why every button, the menus, and the features offered point back to the Internet network. In fact, the classic Google services are available, such as Google Maps, YouTube, Google Talk for instant conversations and many other applications. The basic package for the Web is Google Webkit Browser, lightweight and stable for browsing without compromises. Basic features such as a contacts address book and a calendar for appointments are certainly not missing. It is also possible to download new Open Source software directly from the network, to better customize one's own device. The operating system is therefore Android, managed by the powerful Qualcomm processor at 528 MHz. The voice aspect, on the other hand, offers speakerphone, voice recorder and support for video calling.
Entertainment and multimedia
To make the My Touch 3G truly exciting, the designers equipped it with a 3.2 megapixel camera, capable of delivering excellent quality photographs. It can rely on dedicated functions such as autofocus, zoom and image adjustment. The 192 MB RAM allows for good storage capacity; however, for the more demanding users it is possible to use microSD cards for expansion. A multimedia player is also present, so you can always have your favorite music or videos with you. Furthermore, this T-Mobile is equipped with a GPS receiver, to be used as a satellite navigator. All of this can be enjoyed relying on a long battery life, 600 hours in Stand-by.
