Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 review
Network and connections
A new addition to the Sony Ericsson lineup, after the release of the larger Xperia X10 and the Mini models, this X8 version occupies an intermediate segment. Equipped with a Quadband GSM receiver, on frequencies of 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz, it ensures optimal coverage in any area of the world. In addition, UMTS support is present for advanced network functions. Internet browsing is really fast, thanks to the HSDPA modem. Or you can take advantage of networks distributed via the Wi-Fi antenna. The convenient Bluetooth for exchanging files with other devices is not missing. It is also possible to sync the phone directly with your home PC, using the USB data cable.
Design and features
A simple and clean style, with satin surfaces and rounded edges to ensure a comfortable grip. The dimensions remain compact, with a thickness of 15 mm and a weight of 104 grams. The front side is occupied almost entirely by the large display, a 3-inch HVGA TFT, equipped with Capacitive Touch Screen technology for quick and intuitive management of every content. At the bottom are the function keys. Included in the package is a 2 GB memory card.
Main features
The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is equipped with the Android OS platform, developed by Google. This software makes every application really easy to use, offering stability and processing speed. This is also thanks to the 600 MHz processor. The basic functions are complete, but it is still possible to install compatible software thanks to Java support. In this way it will be possible to fully customize your device according to your needs. Managing E-mail and Office and PDF documents will be really simple. Advanced applications include Google Maps, Facebook and YouTube. It is also possible to use Instant Messaging programs, such as Google Talk. For the voice sector, instead, there are the speakerphone, the voice recorder and support for video calls.
Entertainment and multimedia
So as not to miss anything, there are fun games for leisure time. Or a multimedia player to faithfully play back your favorite music and videos. The automatic track recognition function, TradkID Music Recognition, is interesting. The AM/FM radio tuner, on the other hand, allows you to listen to radio stations at any time, even with the RDS function. The available memory is 128 MB, further expandable via microSD cards up to 16 GB. For capturing images and videos there is a digital camera, with a 3.2 megapixel lens. The image quality is very good, thanks also to the numerous dedicated functions. In addition, the integrated GPS module is present, to turn the Xperia X8 into a satellite navigator.
