Sony Ericsson W890i review
Network and connections
A quality phone focused on musical features, equipped with top-notch technical characteristics. The W890i is in fact a GSM Quadband device, which allows you to take advantage of the 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz frequencies. Together with UMTS support, it can work in Dual Mode to ensure extraordinary coverage in every part of the world. Web compatibility is guaranteed by the presence of the internal modem which, thanks to the WAP browser and fast HSDPA packet data management, allows easy Internet browsing. There is also no shortage of Bluetooth and the possibility of connecting the USB 2.0 cable.
Design and features
A one-piece structure in Candybar style, with rounded edges and satin surfaces to provide greater comfort in the grip. The keyboard is standard, with simple and linear keys that are well spaced out. In the center a directional pad for also managing musical features. In the upper part, however, is the screen, a 2-inch TFT that displays up to 256,000 colors. The dimensions have been kept rather compact: with only 78 grams of weight and 9.9 mm of thickness, portability is absolutely guaranteed. It is important to note the richness of the purchase package; included are the headphones, the USB cable and a 2 GB Memory Stick.
Main features
The W890i model is part of the Walkman range, which means that the designers have equipped it with special features dedicated to entertainment. However, it is also complete in more common aspects, such as an organizer synchronized to audio alerts, or the possibility of keeping up with the news thanks to the RSS Feed reader. Writing support is precise, for SMS, multimedia messages and also E-mail. As for the voice aspect, it is possible to make multi-conference calls and video calls thanks to the front camera. Or even use the speakerphone and the voice recorder.
Entertainment and multimedia
In this area the W890i gives its best, offering unique emotions thanks to the high audio quality of its speakers. A complete multimedia player can faithfully reproduce audio and video files in various formats. Furthermore, database management can count on functions such as SensMe which allows you to select music according to your mood. Or Album Art, to display the covers of music albums. An AM/FM radio receiver also allows you to listen to your favorite stations at any time, complete with RDS function. On the back there is instead a rear camera, with a resolution of 3.2 megapixels, which delivers quality photographs thanks to Zoom. All of this is guaranteed by a battery life of 360 hours in Stand-by, thanks to the 950 mAh battery.
