Sony Ericsson W595 review
Network and connections
A new phone presented by Sony Ericsson for the Walkman segment. The W595 turns out to be truly complete and of very good quality, starting right from the technical specifications. It is in fact a GSM Quadband capable of working in Dual Mode. This way it is also able to exploit the UMTS network, so as to guarantee excellent coverage in any part of the world. As for Internet connectivity, you can count on the internal modem and the HTML browser for viewing web pages. Everything is managed by the fast data traffic control in HSDPA, to have a bandwidth almost like home ADSL. To sync with other devices there is Bluetooth, or also the USB 2.0 data cable.
Design and features
The outer structure presents fairly innovative lines, which give it an appealing and fresh look. The shell can be opened, with a vertical sliding motion; it is therefore a Slider Phone, which reveals inside the standard numeric keypad, with well-highlighted and comfortable-to-use keys. On the upper part is the screen, a 2.2-inch TFT that supports up to 262 thousand colors, at a resolution of 240x320 pixels. Below it is a directional pad and dedicated keys for the menu function, as well as for multimedia features. The dimensions are fairly compact, 104 grams in weight at 14 mm thick. The standard package boasts the presence of headphones with double jack, the USB cable and a handy 2 GB memory card.
Main features
First of all we can say that the platform is proprietary, which indicates a not fully expandable device. However, Java support allows you to install compatible applications to customize your phone quite a bit. The most common management functions are present, such as an address book for contacts, a diary with calendar for appointments, calculator and alarm clock. The voice sector boasts good audio quality, so as to always have a clear and crisp voice. The integrated hands-free thanks to the stereo speakers, voice recorder and multiconference support are very good. The front camera also allows you to make video calls. Writing messages is made easier with a dedicated T9 support, as is composing E-mails. The accelerometer is also handy, automatically orienting the screen display based on the tilt of the device.
Entertainment and multimedia
The Walkman brand immediately indicates this W595's inclination towards musical functions. It is in fact equipped with dedicated keys for the multimedia player, so as to have music at hand at any moment. Various formats are supported, both audio and video, including reception of FM radio signals. The Shake Control function allows you to manage the player simply with wrist rotations. There is also the Walk Mate pedometer function, useful perhaps during a run or a walk in the company of your favorite music. On the back you can also find the camera, with a resolution of 3.2 megapixels, which takes good quality photographs. Battery life guarantees up to 385 hours in Stand-by.
