Sony Ericsson Vivaz review
Network and connections
A solid product offered by Sony Ericsson to entertain a demanding audience. The network receiver is a GSM Quadband, capable of guaranteeing optimal coverage in any area of the world, also thanks to UMTS support. Internet browsing is really fast, with HSDPA modem for packet data traffic. With the HTML browser it will feel like opening pages just like with home ADSL. To exchange files with other compatible devices, Bluetooth is used instead. Or even the USB 2.0 data cable to sync directly with a PC. Also present is the antenna for Wi-Fi networks.
Design and features
The compact structure encloses everything in a sturdy body that's practical to handle. The rounded edges offer an ergonomic grip, to hold the device comfortably in the palm of your hand. The dimensions are in fact contained, with 12.5 mm of thickness and only 97 grams of weight. The front side houses the large screen, a 3.2-inch TFT with display of up to 16 million colors and an accelerometer sensor for image auto-rotation. It is equipped with Resistive Touch Screen technology, to offer simple and intuitive content management. A multifunction key also helps with menu navigation. The retail package includes earphones and a data cable.
Main features
The platform is Symbian Series 60, designed to offer advanced functionality to the user while keeping management and customization simple. This is made possible by the thoroughly complete application package offered, with address book, organizer, alarm clock and calculator, currency converter and even a stopwatch. But that's not all, because Java support allows the installation of compatible software for expansion. Support for Office documents allows you to handle E-mail attachments without any problems. They can be composed quickly, thanks to the predictive writing that helps a lot with message texts. The purely telephone-related side is no less impressive, with good quality hands-free, voice recorder, and multi-conference support. Furthermore, the dedicated camera allows you to make video calls. It's also possible to stay always in touch with friends on the network, via Instant Messaging. The presence of a TV output (in VGA resolution) is interesting.
Entertainment and multimedia
To complete the technological offer of this Vivaz, Sony Ericsson's designers have equipped the device with a camera of as much as 8 megapixels. This is the feature that perhaps gives the device an extra edge. Thanks also to Flash, Zoom and other dedicated functions, such as Smile Detection, images will always be perfect. You can also record videos, to be saved on the 75 MB internal memory, further expandable up to 16 GB with microSD cards. This way, your favorite music and videos will always be in your pocket, ready to be played with the media player. The AM/FM antenna then allows you to receive your favorite radio broadcasts in any area. The battery life is very good, lasting up to 440 hours in Stand-by.
