Sony Ericsson T707a review
Network and connections
An advanced device, with top-level functions to satisfy a wide market audience. The network receiver is a GSM Triband, capable of guaranteeing optimal coverage in any area of the world, also thanks to Dual Mode UMTS support. Internet browsing is really fast, with an HSDPA modem for packet data traffic. With the HTML browser it will feel like opening pages just like with home ADSL. To exchange files with other compatible devices, Bluetooth is used instead. Or again the USB 2.0 data cable to sync directly with the PC. However, the antenna for Wi-Fi networks is missing.
Design and features
The compact structure holds everything in a sturdy body that is practical to handle. The rounded edges offer an ergonomic grip, to hold the device comfortably in the palm of a hand. The dimensions are indeed contained, with a thickness of 14.1 mm and a weight of around 95 grams. The front part houses the large screen, a 2.2-inch QVGA TFT with display up to 256,000 colors. The body is a clamshell, so the main display is on the inside along with the standard alphanumeric keypad. On the outer front part, however, there is an auxiliary monochrome screen. The sales package includes earphones and a data cable.
Main features
The proprietary platform is designed to offer simple yet complete functionality to the user, while also preserving customization options. This is made possible by the absolutely complete application package offered, with contacts, organizer, alarm clock and calculator, currency converter and also a stopwatch. But that's not all, because Java support allows the installation of compatible software for expansion. Support for Office documents makes it possible to handle E-mail attachments without any problems. These can be composed quickly, thanks to predictive text. The purely telephone-related aspect is no less impressive, with good quality speakerphone, voice recorder, and multiconference support. Furthermore, the dedicated camera allows for video calls. It is also possible to always stay in touch with friends on the network, through Instant Messaging.
Entertainment and multimedia
In a quality device like the T707A, a camera certainly could not be missing. It has a resolution of 3.2 megapixels, for good quality images when needed, also thanks to Flash, Zoom and other dedicated functions. It will also be possible to record videos, to be saved on the 100 MB internal memory which can be further expanded up to 16 GB with Memory Stick M2 cards. This way, favorite music and videos will always be on hand, to be played with the media player. The AM/FM antenna then allows you to receive your favorite radio broadcasts in any area, complete with RDS function. Battery life is very good, guaranteeing up to 400 hours in Stand-by.
