Sony Ericsson S003 review
Network and connections
A new member of the Sony Ericsson family has been announced on the Japanese market. This is the S003, which hides an extremely advanced feature, thanks to the collaboration with CyberShot. But let's talk first about the technical specs. The GSM receiver is Quadband, to offer reliable coverage in every situation. UMTS support is missing, however it is possible to take advantage of Internet browsing thanks to the internal GPRS/EDGE modem. Naturally, the convenient Bluetooth is not missing, for exchanging data with compatible devices.
Design and features
The exterior look of the S003 is simple and clean, with a Slider opening body that allows for contained dimensions. The weight is also in line with the norm, at 154 grams. Inside is the standard alphanumeric keyboard, with well-separated and comfortable-to-use keys. The front part, on the other hand, houses the screen, a 3.2-inch TFT capable of displaying up to as many as 26 million colors. It is planned in appealing colors, to attract especially a young audience.
Main features
The proprietary platform immediately proves to be complete and functional. Java support also allows the installation of compatible software, so as to customize the device according to one's own needs. Predictive text input proves to be very convenient for quickly composing any type of text, making it easy to handle even E-mails with Office and PDF attachments. Also interesting is the TV-out output for projecting multimedia content externally. A TV tuner is also present. As for the phone aspect, there is speakerphone, voice recorder and multi-conference support.
Entertainment and multimedia
Here we arrive at the section that most characterizes this S003 from Sony Ericsson. As already mentioned, the collaboration with CyberShot has added a touch of high quality to this device. This is the digital camera with a resolution of as much as 12 megapixels. It is capable of delivering professional-quality images, perfect even in the smallest details thanks to dedicated functions. The Sony Exmor photo sensor automatically adjusts everything before taking the shot. The internal memory is 350 MB, expandable up to 16 GB to make room for any content you want to keep with you. So it is possible to listen to your favorite music, or watch the best videos, thanks to the multimedia player. The AM/FM radio receiver with RDS function is also not missing. Battery life, however, remains somewhat limited, certainly due to the presence of so many demanding features: up to 260 hours in Stand-by.
