Sony Ericsson P990i is considered a third generation smartphone, due to its capabilities as a Dual Mode terminal. It is, in fact, a model able to operate on UMTS and GSM networks (900/1800/1900 MHz), worldwide. Besides "broadband," it can also use EDGE and GPRS data transfers. Furthermore, Sony Ericsson P990i is the first to use the Symbian 9.1 operating system, supported by a UIQ 3.1 graphical interface. The all-important wireless features Wi-fi, Bluetooth and IrDa are available, in addition to USB cable connection. Lastly, the smartphone is equipped with a fairly large, sharp and well-defined display, as well as a battery with long battery life.
Design and equipment
Sony Ericsson 990i packs a "concentrate" of technologies into a tool with very compact dimensions. It is a "candybar", practical and lightweight, with an integrated antenna and slightly squared lines. It is available in the Silver color and it is possible to purchase interchangeable fascias and covers separately in the widest variety of colors according to personal taste. The purchase kit includes battery, travel charger and user manual.
Main features
Sony Ericsson P990i has a built-in speakerphone, for hands-free calls or multiconference mode. The calling functions are numerous: a sound recorder allows you to record and store snippets of conversation; it is also possible to make calls through voice command (Voice Dial). Sony Ericsson P990i is equipped with T9 quick writing, for managing Sms, Ems, Mms and E-Mail. Thanks to 3G support, moreover, it is possible to use video call and video messaging services. Memory is 80 MB and is expandable via Memory Stick PRO Duo.
Entertainment and multimedia
Sony Ericsson P990i integrates basic applications such as organizer, calculator, calendar, clock/alarm. Java (J2ME) support allows the installation of numerous games downloadable through the WAP browser. The model also has an integrated AM/FM radio and an MP3 player, for listening to musical melodies. Sony Ericsson P990i is equipped with a camera with a 2 Megapixel sensor, for a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 pixels, with digital zoom, autofocus, flash and Macro. The device also functions as a video camera and allows video calls to other users to be made.
