Sony Ericsson K850i review
Network and connections
Another device in the Cyber-Shot series from the major manufacturer, equipped with high-level technical features. First of all, this is a GSM Quadband phone, capable of working on the 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz frequencies. In addition, thanks to Dual Mode it supports the UMTS network, thus guaranteeing truly excellent coverage anywhere in the world. As for wireless, we have Bluetooth available, for conveniently exchanging files with compatible devices. A USB 2.0 port instead allows you to connect directly to your home PC to synchronize data. The K850i is also equipped with an internal modem for browsing the Internet; the speed is amazing, thanks to HSDPA support for packet data traffic.
Design and features
The general lines of this phone are standard, a classic Candybar monoblock shell. However, it is worth noting the innovative solution for the keypad, which keeps the keys raised, arranged individually and no longer stuck one to the other; touch will thus be much more precise and intuitive. The central navigation key has also been revamped, still raised but surrounded by the numeric keys. The dimensions are in line with direct competitors: 17 mm thick and 118 grams in weight. Two color options are planned, Luminous Green and Velvet Blue. On the front side, the display stands out, a 2.2-inch TFT capable of displaying up to 256,000 colors. In the sales package you can find a stereo headset and the USB cable.
Main features
Starting with voice functions, it's immediately clear that the K850i is very complete. It is in fact capable of supporting multi-conferencing and video calls, as well as the ability to make voice recordings and voice calls, also using the convenient speakerphone. The T9 predictive text program allows you to write SMS and multimedia messages very quickly, as well as manage your E-mail. A handy organizer instead helps manage your appointments, also synchronizing them with alarm sound alerts. The platform allows you to install additional components in Java format, so as to best customize the phone according to your needs.
Entertainment and multimedia
This is the area where the K850i best expresses its potential. The camera with a 5 megapixel sensor allows you to take exceptional photographs, just like a real compact camera. The incredible 16X Zoom allows you to capture the most hidden details, also thanks to the integrated Xenon Flash. Everything will be easily publishable online, with the Picture and Video Blogging functions, as well as BestPic for quick sequence shooting. The available memory is generous, 40 MB internal, expandable thanks to microSD or Memory Stick M2 cards up to 4 GB. Favorite music and videos will thus always be at hand, playable with the multiformat player. You can also listen to radio stations thanks to the AM/FM receiver with RDS function. Battery life is also very good, as much as 400 hours of operation in Stand-by.
