Sony Ericsson BRAVIA S004 review
Network and connections
A smartphone of great style, carefully designed both in looks and in technical features for top-notch entertainment. The Bravia S004 integrates a GSM Quadband network receiver, capable of guaranteeing optimal coverage in any area of the world. Internet browsing is really fast, with a GPRS/EDGE modem for packet data traffic, or even CDMA for 3G networks. With the HTML browser it will be easy to view every page smoothly. To exchange files with other compatible devices, Bluetooth is used instead. Or else the USB 2.0 data cable to sync directly with a PC. Also present is the antenna for Wi-Fi networks.
Design and features
The compact structure holds everything inside a clamshell body that is sturdy and practical to handle. The rounded edges offer an ergonomic grip, to hold the device comfortably in the palm of a hand. The dimensions are average, with 18 mm of thickness and 147 grams of weight. The inner part houses the large screen, a 3.2-inch TFT with display of up to 16 million colors and an accelerometer sensor for image auto-rotation. The image quality is incredible, thanks to Bravia technology. A multifunction key also helps in using the menus. On the outside instead, an auxiliary OLED display. The retail package includes headphones and a data cable.
Main features
The proprietary platform offers every necessary function already in the base configuration, as well as the possibility of customization. All of this supported by the fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 1 GHz processor. Support for Office documents allows you to handle E-mail attachments without any problems. These can be composed quickly, thanks to predictive text which helps a lot with message texts. The purely telephone-related aspect is also not lacking, with good-quality speakerphone, voice recorder, support for multi-conferencing. Furthermore, the dedicated camera allows video calls to be made. It is also possible to stay always in touch with friends on the network, through Instant Messaging. Interesting is the presence of the TV tuner and the Barcode Reader.
Sony Ericsson is also moving toward cutting-edge frontiers such as mobile payments, thanks to the Mobile FeliCa Payment System.
Entertainment and multimedia
To complete the technological offer of this Bravia S004, Sony Ericsson's designers have equipped the device with a camera of as much as 8 megapixels. This is the feature that perhaps gives the device that extra touch. Thanks also to Flash, Zoom and other dedicated functions, such as Smile Detection, the pictures will always be perfect. You can also record videos, to be saved on the 800 MB internal memory, further expandable up to 16 GB with microSD cards. This way your favorite music and videos will always be in your pocket, to be played with the media player. The AM/FM antenna then allows you to receive your favorite radio broadcasts in any area, complete with RDS function. Battery life is decent, lasting up to 260 hours in Stand-by.
