Samsung X530 review
Network and connections
Samsung SGH-X530 is a "Tri-Band" mobile phone, capable of operating on the GSM network at frequencies of 900, 1800 and 1900 Mhz. Reliability and decent data transfer speed are guaranteed by EDGE technology, which is added to GPRS (class 10). Both, however, provide decidedly inferior performance compared to what is offered by 3G terminals. This model is unfortunately not equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology while it does feature an infrared port (IrDa). Finally, it is possible to connect the phone to a computer using the dedicated USB cable. The display is good.
Design and features
Samsung SGH-X530 is a compact phone, very thin and carefully finished in its details. It is a device with a slide-up opening, gray - beige in color with black inserts. Its thickness is rather reduced, as is its weight. The antenna, being integrated into the body of the phone, does not limit its overall handling. On the front, with the phone closed, there are only the call buttons, the selection buttons, the navigation cursor and a few others. The opening is activated by pressing a side control.
Main features
SGH-X530 offers a range of features that is not entirely complete. These include a hands-free function usable during conversations, and messaging in Sms, Ems and Mms format. Writing speed is ensured by the T9 predictive text system. This model, however, does not allow for the use of E-mail and does not allow the recording of voice memos, nor does it support voice-command calling functionality. Memory is expandable via microSD cards. SGH-X530 is also equipped with alarm clock, internal calendar, calculator and stopwatch functions.
Entertainment and multimedia
This Samsung model offers a decent range of pre-installed ringtones, both monophonic and polyphonic, at 16 voices. It is also possible to enjoy ringtones and music tracks in MP3 and AAC format, while unfortunately no MPEG-4 video player is included. SGH-X530 also does not have a built-in AM/FM radio. There are, however, some pre-installed games and, thanks to Java (J2ME) support, it is possible to get new ones, even downloading them from the network thanks to the built-in WAP browser. Integrated into the body of the Samsung SGH-X530 is a VGA-type camera, 0.3 Megapixel, capable of reaching a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. It is a device of poor definition, nonetheless able to create a "photo address book". The camera is also equipped with digital zoom and color effects applicable to images.
