Samsung X160 review
Network and connections
Samsung SGH-X160 is classified as a GSM Dual-Band cell phone: that is, it is able to receive and make calls on the 900 and 1800 Mhz frequencies. Network connectivity is achieved through EDGE support, as well as GPRS. Unfortunately, wireless connections such as infrared or Bluetooth are not available. Connection to a computer via cable is also impossible, since the phone does not have a USB port.
Design and features
Samsung SGH-X160 belongs to the category of phones with a "clamshell" flip opening. This particular structure protects the screen from scratches and impacts and increases the phone's resistance to external agents. The design is simple but with modern lines, with an integrated antenna. It is a compact and very light handset. The upper outer part of the body lacks a secondary display and features geometric patterns; the main screen, on the other hand, is located inside.
Main features
During a conversation, Samsung SGH-X160 allows the use of the hands-free mode thanks to the built-in speaker. It also allows communication with multiple connected devices through the multiconference function. The phone also has a voice recorder, agenda, alarm clock and calculator. As for messaging, the SGH-X160 supports most of the current standards: it is in fact able to receive and send Sms, Ems and Mms, all easily composed thanks to the built-in predictive text software.
Entertainment and multimedia
Samsung SGH-X160 offers its users a rather limited number of customizations, due to the poor connectivity and the heavily limited memory: only 1.2 MB non-expandable. Through the WAP browser it is possible to download new content, such as wallpapers, logos, polyphonic ringtones and screensavers. The phone supports the latest development in Java technology for cell phones (J2ME) but it does not have games. Samsung SGH-X160, moreover, cannot serve as a music entertainer since it lacks both a radio and a multimedia player. The entertainment options are therefore extremely limited, also due to the lack of a built-in camera.
