Samsung U700 EVO review
Network and connections
A sensational phone, able to compete without any problem with rival top-of-the-range models. The technical specifications immediately show off its qualities. This is in fact a GSM Triband device, able to guarantee excellent network coverage in any condition. Furthermore, with the Dual Mode feature it's also possible to take advantage of UMTS frequencies. Browsing the Internet is really very fast; the internal modem handles data traffic with HSDPA, for speeds equal to home ADSL. The HTML browser will therefore be able to display every page at its best. The classic options for connecting to other devices are not missing, such as Bluetooth and USB 2.0 data cable.
Design and features
The style is unmistakable, just like the old U700. Soft but decisive lines, to best define every detail. The result is an ultra-thin body, just 12.1 mm thick, elegant and polished. The weight also gives an idea of the great portability of the U700 Evo: only 86 grams. The front is occupied by the screen, a 240x320 pixel TFT, able to display up to 262,000 colors. Images are therefore always sharp and bright. Just below is a directional pad, useful in managing every function. The Slider opening instead reveals the keyboard inside, a standard numeric keypad with well-defined keys.
Main features
The U700 Evo's operating system is proprietary, already complete with every standard feature. Java support also allows you to install additional compatible software, to better customize your device. The Offline mode is interesting, as it blocks the emission of electromagnetic waves, allowing you to continue using the phone even during a flight. The messaging department is decidedly complete; T9 allows you to quickly compose text, both for SMS and for the more demanding E-mail. Contact address book, appointment calendar, alarm clock and calculator, or even currency converter and stopwatch are the classic management functions. Voice functions, on the other hand, boast speakerphone, voice recorder and multi-conference support. Furthermore, the dedicated camera allows you to make video calls. Worth highlighting is the Vibra Soft Keys touch technology, which causes a slight vibration when a key is pressed.
Entertainment and multimedia
Besides telephony, the U700 Evo is also excellent in the entertainment department. The 3.2 megapixel camera it is equipped with allows you to obtain quality images. No problem capturing small details, thanks to the 4X Zoom. You can also select various shooting modes, such as panorama or burst mode. Multimedia playback, on the other hand, boasts incredible audio quality, with Bang & Olufsen's ICEPower three-dimensional technology. Audio and video files are thus faithfully reproduced by the multimedia player. Memory capacity is high, expandable up to 2 GB via microSD cards. Battery life is also notable, up to 295 hours in Stand-by.
