Samsung S3100 review
Network and connections
A good quality phone, capable of offering complete functionality for every kind of need. The technical features are interesting. The S3100 is a GSM Quadband device, capable of guaranteeing excellent network coverage in any condition. Browsing the Internet is really convenient and fast; the internal modem in fact handles data traffic with GPRS or EDGE. So the HTML browser will be able to display every page at its best. The classics for connecting to other devices are not missing, such as Bluetooth and USB 2.0 data cable.
Design and features
The style is unmistakably Samsung, with a body featuring a vertical Slider opening. Soft but decisive lines, to best outline every detail. The result is an ultra-thin body, just 14.9 mm thick, elegant and polished. The weight also gives an idea of the great portability of the U700 Evo: just 99.2 grams. The front is occupied by the screen, a 2.1-inch TFT, capable of displaying up to 262,000 colors. Images therefore always come out sharp and bright. Just below is a directional pad, useful for managing every function. The keyboard, on the other hand, is inside, with comfortable and well-arranged keys.
Main features
The S3100's operating system is proprietary, already complete with every standard feature. Java support also allows you to install additional compatible software, to best customize your device. The messaging department is decidedly complete; T9 allows you to quickly compose text, both for SMS and for the more demanding E-mail. Contact list, calendar for appointments, alarm clock and calculator, or even currency converter and stopwatch are the classic management tools. Voice functions, on the other hand, boast the speakerphone, the voice recorder and support for multi-conferencing.
Entertainment and multimedia
Besides telephony, this Samsung is also excellent in the entertainment department. The 1.3 megapixel camera it is equipped with allows you to obtain acceptable quality images. No problem capturing small details, thanks to the digital Zoom. Multimedia playback, on the other hand, boasts incredible audio quality, with the DNSe (Digital Natural Sound Engine) speaker technology. Audio and video files are thus faithfully reproduced by the multimedia player. In addition, you can listen to your favorite AM/FM radio broadcasts, complete with the RDS function. Memory capacity is high, considering the expandability up to 8 GB via microSD cards. Battery life is also notable, up to 490 hours in Stand-by.
