Samsung D900 review
Network and connections
Samsung SGH-D900 falls among Quad-Band GSM cell phones.
This means that it is able to operate throughout the world,
interfacing with four different frequencies: 850, 900,
1800 and 1900 Mhz. GPRS technology ensures the reliability
of data transfer, even if performance turns out to be mediocre
in comparison to new generation terminals. Bluetooth
connectivity allows the use of wireless peripherals, such as
headsets or hands-free kits, and the exchange of files with other
compatible devices. Synchronization with the PC, on the other hand,
takes place via the USB cable provided.
Design and features
The design of Samsung SGH-D900 is of the sliding type ("slide-
up"), with command-operated opening. The size of the device is
rather small, as is the weight, while the distinguishing
characteristic is the minimal thickness, only 13 mm. The black
color of the model enhances its elegance. Furthermore, on the front
of the body is the large LCD display, beneath which are
located the main buttons and the practical pad for navigating
through menus.
Main functions
This model has a hands-free function and an integrated speaker.
It is also possible, if desired, to speak with multiple users
simultaneously through the conference call function. As for
messaging, the SGH-D900 supports all current standards: it is in fact
possible to send and receive SMS, MMS
and E-mail. Furthermore, thanks to the predictive text system it is
possible to quickly compose any type of message. Worth mentioning are the
alarm, calculator and organizer functions for
everyday use. Memory is 80 MB and is
expandable via microSD cards.
Entertainment and multimedia
Samsung SGH-D900 is equipped with a camera with a
3 Megapixel sensor, at the top of the range. This allows for
capturing sharp and extremely detailed images, of a quality
comparable to those of an entry-level digital camera.
Unfortunately the flash is missing, but it is nevertheless possible to adjust
brightness and contrast for maximum versatility of use. The
phone is unfortunately lacking an FM radio, while the multimedia player
supports MP3, AAC, AAC+ and WMA formats, as well as
video files in 3GP and MP4 format. Java technology, finally,
allows you to have fun with video games and install new ones,
even downloading them from the network with the built-in WAP browser.
