Pantech Matrix review

Network and connections
Pantech launches an absolutely innovative phone, which integrates the Dual Slider technology that we will discuss in more detail in the design section. First of all, this is a GSM Quadband device, capable of operating on the 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz frequencies. In this way, signal coverage is truly excellent in any area of the world. In addition, UMTS support allows you to take advantage of additional features, as well as to browse the Internet quickly. Data traffic management is in HSDPA, which allows you to reach speeds equal to home ADSL. In this way, the HTML browser can open pages without any problem, even the heaviest ones. Bluetooth and USB 2.0 data output are also present.

Design and features
The particularity of the Matrix lies in possessing both a standard numeric keyboard and an extended QWERTY one. How is such a thing possible? A Dual Slider mechanism allows the moving parts of the body to slide in two different directions, vertical and horizontal, to reveal one keyboard or the other. The upper part instead integrates the screen, a 240x320 pixel TFT, with display of up to 256,000 colors. A directional pad just below allows for practical and quick use of the device, along with the function keys. Given the complexity of the structure, the dimensions are compact: 20 mm thick for a weight of 132 grams. In the sales package you will find a data cable and headphones.

Main features

Beyond the innovative structure, the Pantech Matrix offers basic but still complete features. The contacts address book allows for advanced management of information, as does the organizer for better coordinating your appointments. There are also utilities such as alarm clock, calculator and currency converter. The purely telephone aspect instead offers the possibility of using the built-in speakerphone, of recording conversations and of making multiconference calls. In addition, UMTS support also allows you to make video calls. The extended keyboard is clearly convenient for composing any type of text message, so you can also comfortably send E-mails.

Entertainment and multimedia
To complete the features offered by the Matrix, the designers have integrated a digital camera with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels. It is clear that image quality is not very high, however it allows you to capture every detail when needed, thanks to the integrated Zoom. The musical aspect instead boasts a good multimedia player, which allows you to play files in various audio and video formats, but not to receive radio frequencies. The available memory is conveniently expandable as desired via microSD type cards. To conclude, a comment is due regarding the presence of the GPS receiver, to be used with navigation and map services.
