Nokia N81 review
Network and connections
Nokia's N Series always stands out for its excellent technical features, especially in the multimedia field. So, to complete the product in the best way, the N81 has been equipped with a GSM Quadband receiver, on frequencies of 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz. This guarantees optimal coverage in any area of the world, also thanks to support for UMTS networks. Internet connectivity is guaranteed by the internal modem: it manages packet data traffic in GPRS or EDGE, to allow for good speed when opening HTML pages. It is also possible to use distributed networks thanks to Wi-Fi support. To connect to other devices, on the other hand, you can use Bluetooth, or the USB data cable.
Design and equipment
The look of this Smartphone is appealing, with innovative and well-studied lines. The dimensions are compact to ensure good portability without compromise. The thickness is therefore 17.9 mm and the weight is 140 grams. The structure is not a single block, but rather opens vertically with a slide mechanism. This frees up the standard numeric keypad inside, with flat but very usable keys. On the front, on the other hand, there's the screen, a 2.4-inch TFT capable of displaying up to 16 million colors. Just below is Nokia's classic multifunction directional pad, with other management keys. Inside the retail package you'll find stereo earphones and the data cable, as well as a 2 GB microSD card.
Main features
The Symbian S60 third edition operating system offers the possibility of expanding your device as you wish, in order to best suit the needs of each user. Java support in fact allows the installation of compatible software. Traditional features such as the address book, appointment calendar, alarm clock, currency converter and calculator are very convenient and practical to use. T9 support for easy writing helps with quick text composition, so you can send SMS, multimedia messages and E-mail without any problem. The possibilities of using the N81 for Push-to-Talk and as a VoIP phone for calls from the internet are interesting. In addition, the voice section offers support for multiconferencing and video calls, via the dedicated front camera.
Entertainment and multimedia
The entertainment aspect is decisive in a device of this caliber. So an excellent multimedia player allows the playback of music and videos in various formats. The available memory is abundant, further expandable via microSD cards. A rear camera, on the other hand, allows you to take photographs at a resolution of 2 megapixels, also thanks to the 20X Zoom and the built-in Flash. It's also possible to listen to your favorite radio stations, thanks to the AM/FM radio receiver. All of this is guaranteed by a 1050 mAh battery, which keeps the phone active for up to 410 hours in Stand-by.
