Nokia N80 review
Network and connections
N80 is a worldwide network-compatible mobile phone.
Being a Dual Mode handset, this Nokia model can take
advantage of UMTS network capabilities and, where this
is not available, automatically connects to the GSM system,
on one of the four usable bands (850, 900, 1800 or 1900
Mhz). Also worth noting is support for EDGE and
GPRS technologies for data connections, in addition to the wireless
Bluetooth and IrDa connectivity. Furthermore, N80 offers the user a USB
port and the important WLAN wireless network connection.
Design and features
Nokia N80 is a very elegant device, in "slide-up"
style, meaning with a sliding opening. It has the dimensions of a
deck of cards, with, on the front, a very large and
sharp display plus the handiness given by its built-in
antenna. The numeric keypad, with rather close-together, backlit
buttons, is revealed by pressing a side control.
Main features
N80 allows the management, viewing and sending of
Sms, Mms, video messages and E-mail messages. The T9 simplified
writing system helps the user in creating various
texts. This model is also one of the few equipped with
UPnP (Universal Plug & Play) technology, which allows
connecting to the home network as if one had a
universal remote control, allowing access to compatible PCs, stereo
systems and TVs. The memory capacity is adequate
for initial needs, with 40 MB expandable via MiniSD
cards. The 820 MAh lithium-ion battery, finally, offers a
good battery life: about 190 minutes of talk time and up to
200 hours on standby.
Entertainment and multimedia
This Nokia phone is also part of the range of those that
offer built-in FM radio, particularly appreciated
by younger user groups. Nokia N80 is also equipped with
polyphonic ringtones, MP3, MP4 player and "Visual
Radio" support (an information channel that offers the listener
information about the track and the artist they are listening to). The
built-in browser allows access to internet resources
while the digital camera deserves great attention, with a
sensor of as much as 3 Megapixel and 20x digital zoom. The
internal video camera, instead, is dedicated to video calls.
