Nokia E55 review
Network and connections
A new device in Nokia's Business series, ready to meet even the most demanding work needs. It is also comprehensive in terms of multimedia services, in order to offer all-around functionality. First of all, it is a GSM Quadband capable, thanks also to the support of UMTS networks, of working in Dual Mode. This way, network coverage is always optimal anywhere in the world. Internet connectivity is no less impressive; the HTML browser can in fact display pages at a speed equal to home ADSL, thanks to HSDPA data traffic management. And that's not all, because the Wi-Fi antenna also allows you to take advantage of distributed networks. Naturally, the classic Bluetooth and USB 2.0 data cable output are not missing.
Design and features
The shapes are absolutely compact, in order to guarantee portability without compromise during work travel. The lines are soft on the edges, so as to offer greater ergonomics in the grip. There remains, however, an air of elegance that is refined yet simple, thanks to the glossy metal frame. The thickness is only 9.9 mm and the weight is 98 grams. The front houses the screen, a 2.4-inch TFT, capable of displaying up to 16 million colors. Just below is the classic Nokia directional pad, with function keys to manage the device comfortably. The keyboard is a Compact QWERTY, convenient for writing texts quickly without taking up as much space on the device as a full-size one. The sales package includes the earphones, the USB data cable, and a handy 2 GB microSD memory card.
Main features
Nokia has equipped the E55 model with the Symbian S60 platform, which has by now become a symbol of functionality for Smartphones. It is indeed comprehensive, intuitive, and easy to use. It also offers expansion possibilities, thanks to Java support, for installing compatible software, in order to best customize every content. The Business user needs efficient work tools to quickly manage appointments, contacts, and office documents. This is why the address book, organizer, and Office document support allow for great operational efficiency. Support for predictive text input allows you to compose text messages quickly, so as to best manage even corporate E-mail. The voice sector is no less equipped, with a voice recorder, speakerphone, multi-conference support, and voice calls. A dedicated front-facing camera also allows you to make video calls.
Entertainment and multimedia
To best complete the functional offering, the Nokia E55 is equipped with a 3.2 megapixel rear camera. This allows you to take quality photographs, thanks also to the LED Flash and dedicated functions such as Zoom and autofocus. You can also record videos, to be saved directly to the internal memory; this is expandable up to 16 GB via microSD cards. There is therefore plenty of space available to save your favorite audio and video files, to be played back faithfully with the media player. Furthermore, the AM/FM radio antenna also allows you to listen to radio stations. The presence of the GPS receiver is interesting, for integrating satellite functions while on the move. The lithium battery guarantees operating autonomy of up to 432 hours in Stand-by.
