Nokia E50 review

Network and connections

Nokia E50 is a Quad-Band GSM cellular phone, meaning it is
able to receive and make calls on four
different frequencies: 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 Mhz, with
GPRS-type data transfer. The latter
technology proves reliable but not particularly fast. Regarding
connectivity, Nokia E50 offers IrDa and
Bluetooth compatibility, for the use of various wireless
peripherals, while via cable it allows connection
to a PC through the USB port. The operating system is Symbian 9.1.

Design and features

As for the design, Nokia E50 belongs to the category of
"candybar" handsets. The phone is fairly thin but overall is
not particularly compact. The rounded corners make the grip
more comfortable to the touch and the built-in antenna does
not add any further bulk to the structure. The screen is very
large and occupies the entire upper part of the front casing.
The lower part is instead entirely dedicated to the keypad.

Main features

Nokia E50 offers the hands-free function, available through
the handy built-in speaker. Voice
multiconference is also available, to talk with several users
simultaneously. The Voice Memo lets you store
partial blocks of conversation or audio sequences.
A further option is voice command calling.
In the messaging department, this cell phone
ensures compatibility with all the latest standards: it is
in fact possible to send and receive SMS, EMS, MMS and
E-mail, all easily composed thanks to the T9 simplified
writing software. Finally, it's worth mentioning
the Push-To-Talk function, which turns the phone into a
Walkie-Talkie with the simple press of the dedicated key.
The alarm clock and organizer are of course present. The built-in memory is
70 MB and can be expanded via microSD expansion cards.

Entertainment and multimedia

Nokia E50 offers many ways of customization. There are no
compatibility issues with games and applications, thanks
to support for the latest version of Java
technology (J2ME). This cell phone
lacks an AM/FM radio but is able to play MP3 and AAC audio
formats, as well as MP4 and 3GP video
formats. These features make it an
excellent multimedia player. The model also offers the
innovative calorie-counter function, which allows you to
keep your workouts under control. Nokia E50 sports
a good quality camera, equipped with a sensor with a
resolution of 1.3 Megapixel. It
allows you to take photographs with the ability to adjust
brightness and contrast according to environmental
conditions. The device is also equipped with self-timer and
digital zoom.
