Nokia 8850 review

Network and connections

A 1999 cell phone, Nokia 8850 is a model that features a rather scarce range of connectivity. It is in fact a simple Dual Band as far as GSM networks are concerned, and the 900 and 1800 Mhz frequencies it operates on make it usable only in Europe. In addition to these networks there is exclusively an IrDa port, which at least allows data transfer at an acceptable speed.

Design and features

Very particular in design, this is one of the first models conceived by Nokia with the purpose of "covering" the keypad: it does in fact have a cover (a primitive form of the future clamshell opening) that hides the numeric keys. The display is monochrome with 5 lines of text, and stays at the center of the body, at the top. It integrates an 830 mAh battery with 150 hours or 3 hours and 20 minutes of autonomy (stand-by or call). It weighs 91 grams and has dimensions of 100x44x17 millimeters. Color: Metallic.

Main functions

35 monophonic ringtones and the possibility of composing 5 more thanks to the Composer in Nokia 8850. A few Kb of internal memory that allow you to store 8 voice commands, 250 phonebook contacts or even 50 calendar notes. Voice Dial can only be applied to 8 selected contacts in the phonebook. The phonebook holds up to 250 numbers. The last 8 calls made, received or missed are remembered. There is a calendar.

Entertainment and multimedia

Considering the period in which it was presented, the Nokia 8850 cell phone offers a praiseworthy set of additional tools for entertainment. Starting with picture messages. Going all the way to Voice Dial for associating voice memos linked to phonebook contacts. There is no camera but there are 3 built-in games, to which no others can be added via download because there is no access to Wap.
