Nokia 6790 Surge review

Network and connections
Nokia launches the 6790 Surge, a device dedicated to a very wide audience, one that also demands advanced functionality from a portable device. The technical features are of high quality, starting with the GSM Quadband receiver, capable of guaranteeing optimal coverage in any area of the world. UMTS support also increases network potential. The fast internal HSDPA modem allows you to reach high speeds for browsing the Internet. Of course, Bluetooth is not missing, handy for exchanging files with other devices; nor is the USB 2.0 data output.

Design and features
At first glance the Surge is compact and easy to handle, thanks to a thickness of 15.5 mm and a weight of 124 grams. Looking more closely, however, you discover that the body opens with a Slider movement, to reveal inside an extended QWERTY keyboard, truly useful for quickly writing any type of text. Just above it is the screen, a 2.4-inch TFT, capable of delivering vivid and bright images with up to 16 million colors. The finishes are carefully done, to give the device elegance and importance. A directional pad and some function keys help in managing operations.

Main features
The Symbian OS platform is famous for its complete and easy-to-use functions. The extended keyboard proves right away to be an excellent tool for quickly writing messages and E-mail. There is no shortage of advanced contact management with the phonebook, a calendar for keeping track of personal appointments, alarm clock, calculator, and clock. You can also install applications compatible with Java. Instant Messaging utilities are supported. The support for Office and PDF documents is very useful, making it easy to manage attachments as well. Of course, speakerphone, voice recorder, and voice-command calling are present.

Entertainment and multimedia

For moments of leisure outside of work, it's convenient to have a device that can offer good multimedia capabilities. So the Nokia 6790 Surge is equipped with a digital camera, with a resolution of 2 megapixels. It allows you to take good quality photographs, even in unfavorable lighting conditions, thanks to integrated Zoom and Flash. You can also record short videos, to be saved on the 128 MB internal memory, expandable via microSD cards up to 8 GB. This way you'll also have space for your favorite audio and video files, to be played back with the media player. Or else the AM/FM radio. The presence of the GPS receiver is interesting, integrating satellite functionality such as Geo-Tagging. Battery life is very good, lasting up to 400 hours in Stand-by.
