Nokia 5800 XpressMusic review

Network and connections
Nokia offers the first Touch Screen device in its wide range of products. A truly complete phone in every respect, to compete without compromise with the top models from other manufacturers. The reception system is a Quadband GSM, which offers absolutely excellent coverage anywhere in the world. It is also able to work in Dual Mode, so as to also take advantage of UMTS support. As far as wireless is concerned, absolutely nothing is missing: Bluetooth for exchanging files with other devices, or Wi-Fi for connecting to distributed networks. You can also browse the Web quickly, thanks to HSDPA support for data traffic and the HTML browser. It is also possible to synchronize directly to the PC via the USB 2.0 cable.

Design and features
The design is decidedly appealing, a one-piece all-screen body. The edges are rounded to give a more secure and comfortable grip. The lines are simple and essential, but manage to give an appreciable elegance. The upper part is practically occupied by the screen alone, a 3.2-inch Widescreen 16:9 TFT, capable of displaying up to 16 million colors; the images are absolutely bright and sharp. Three colors are planned for the market: Black, Red and Blue. The dimensions are fairly in line with competing devices, although perhaps the thickness could have been reduced a bit; indeed we're talking about 109 grams in weight and 15.5 mm in thickness. In the retail package you can find the indispensable stereo headset from the Xpress Music series, as well as a handy 8 GB microSD card.

Main features
The Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is equipped with the Symbian S60 Fifth Edition platform, a guarantee of boundless potential. Customization is extreme, with the ability to install compatible applications thanks also to Java support. The menus and desktop have been completely redesigned, with innovative solutions geared toward comfort and speed of use. The Touch Screen, among other things, allows you to manage content with the stylus, with your fingers, or with a pick attached to the wrist strap. The contacts bar, with quick links to the log related to each of them; or again the multimedia bar with links to the Web network. Text writing is handled by T9, making it quick to compose SMS, multimedia messages, and E-mail. Special sensory Frameworks allow you to manage the device with touches or movements such as rotations and flips.

Entertainment and multimedia
The Xpress Music class is particularly geared toward musical entertainment. That's why the Nokia 5800 is equipped with a powerful multimedia player, with support for various audio and video formats. The sound quality is amazing, thanks also to the various possible mixer adjustments. The stereo speakers with Surround technology deliver emotions even when playing without headphones. It also integrates the Comes With Music service, for unlimited access to the Nokia Music Store catalog. To complete the offer there is a 3.2 megapixel camera, with Carl Zeiss optics, a guarantee of high quality. Portability is satisfactory, thanks to the 1320 mAh battery which guarantees a duration of up to 406 hours in Stand-by.
