Nokia 5800 Navigation Ed. review

Network and connections
Nokia offers the first Touch Screen device of its wide range of products. A truly complete phone in every respect, able to compete without compromise with the top models from other manufacturers. The reception system is a Quadband GSM, offering absolutely excellent coverage in any part of the world. It is also able to work in Dual Mode, so as to also exploit UMTS support. As for wireless, nothing is missing at all: Bluetooth for exchanging files with other devices, or Wi-Fi for connecting to distributed networks. It is also possible to browse the Web quickly, thanks to HSDPA support for data traffic and the HTML browser. It is also possible to sync directly with a PC via the USB 2.0 cable.

Design and equipment
The design is decidedly appealing, an all-screen one-piece body. The edges are rounded to give a safer and more comfortable grip. The lines are simple and essential, but manage to convey an appreciable elegance. The upper part is practically occupied solely by the screen, a 3.2-inch TFT Widescreen 16:9, capable of displaying up to 16 million colors; the images are absolutely bright and sharp. The dimensions are fairly in line with competing devices, although perhaps the thickness could have been reduced a bit; indeed, we're talking about 109 grams in weight and 15.5 mm in thickness. In the sales package you can find the indispensable stereo headset, as well as a handy microSD card of a full 8 GB.

Main features
The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is equipped with the Symbian S60 v9.4 Fifth Edition platform, a guarantee of boundless potential. Customization is extreme, with the possibility of installing compatible applications also thanks to Java support. The menus and the desktop have been completely redesigned, with innovative solutions aimed at comfort and speed of use. The Touch Screen among other things allows you to manage content with the stylus or with your fingers. The contacts bar, with quick links to the log related to each of them; or again the multimedia bar with links to the Web network. Text writing is handled by T9, making the composition of SMS, multimedia messages and E-mail quick. Special sensory Frameworks allow you to manage the device with touches or movements such as rotations and flips. The real special feature of this version of the 5800 is, however, the GPS satellite navigator, with Drive and Walk voice guidance from Ovi Maps. Every trip will thus be accompanied by guidance on the most important points of interest and traffic warnings.

Entertainment and multimedia
Nokia always offers complete and excellent solutions in any context. This is why the Nokia 5800 is equipped with a powerful multimedia player, with support for various audio and video formats. The sound quality is amazing, also thanks to the various possible mixer adjustments. There is also an AM/FM radio receiver with RDS function. To complete the offering there is a 3.2 megapixel camera, with Carl Zeiss optics, a guarantee of high quality. Portability is satisfactory, thanks to the 1320 mAh battery that guarantees a duration of up to 406 hours in Stand-by.
