Nokia 5233 review
Network and connections
After the launch of the 5235 model, Nokia is offering for 2010 a model that is quite similar, under the name 5233. This positions itself as the cheapest device with the Symbian system on the market. The network receiver is a GSM Quadband, which offers absolutely excellent coverage anywhere in the world. Unlike its predecessor, however, it does not support UMTS. As for wireless, Bluetooth is convenient for exchanging files with other devices. It is also possible to browse the Web, thanks to GPRS support for data traffic and the HTML browser. It is also possible to sync directly with a PC via the USB 2.0 cable.
Design and features
The design is a classic Candybar, almost entirely covered on the front by the screen. This is a 3.2-inch Widescreen 16:9 TFT, capable of displaying up to 16 million colors; the images are absolutely bright and sharp. It is also equipped with Resistive Touch Screen technology. The dimensions are fairly in line with competing devices, although perhaps the thickness could have been reduced a bit; indeed, we're talking about 113 grams for the weight and 14.5 mm for the thickness. The lines are simple and essential, but manage to give it an appreciable elegance.
Main features
The Nokia 5233 comes with the Symbian OS version 9.4 platform, a guarantee of boundless potential. Customization is extreme, with the possibility of installing compatible applications thanks also to Java support. The menus and the desktop have been completely redesigned, with innovative solutions aimed at convenience and speed of use. Among other things, the Touch Screen allows content to be managed with the stylus or with fingers. The contacts bar, with quick links to the log related to each of them; or again the multimedia bar with links to the Web network. Text writing is handled by T9, making it quick to compose SMS, multimedia messages and E-mail.
Entertainment and multimedia
This Nokia is particularly geared toward musical entertainment. That's why it is equipped with a powerful multimedia player, with support for various audio and video formats. The sound quality is amazing, thanks also to the various mixer adjustments available. It also integrates the Comes With Music service, to have unlimited access to the Nokia Music Store catalog. To complete the offering there is a 2 megapixel camera, capable of taking good quality pictures, thanks also to the dedicated functions. Also interesting is the presence of GPS, to integrate satellite functionality. Portability is satisfactory, thanks to the 1320 mAh battery that guarantees a duration of up to 432 hours in Stand-by.
