Network and connections
Motorola offers a simple but functional phone, for the user who doesn't have particular requirements. Network support is Dualband GSM, which guarantees sufficient signal coverage; UMTS mode is not available, however. The internal modem with GPRS data traffic management allows browsing in WAP, through the dedicated browser. Bluetooth instead proves useful for exchanging files with compatible devices. A USB data cable output is not available, however.

Design and features
You immediately notice how handy the phone is and how comfortable it is to carry in your pocket. Its dimensions are in fact compact, with a very contained weight; the Candybar design also allows for a reduced thickness, at 14.3 mm. On the front is the display, a 1.8-inch TFT, capable of displaying up to 65,000 colors. On the lower part, instead, is the standard keyboard on a single surface, with keys outlined by curved rubber lines.

Main features
An Entry Level phone is by definition a not-very-complex device, which offers basic but nonetheless good-quality functions. That's why the WX290 integrates address book management, the calendar, and the alarm with customizable melodies, in addition to the voice aspect with speakerphone and voice recorder. Motorola's proprietary platform allows limited content expandability, thanks to Java support for compatible applications. Support for writing SMS and multimedia messages with quick T9 composition is also present. However, it is not possible to send and receive E-mail.

Entertainment and multimedia
The Motorola WX290 is truly limited to the essentials, but it proves good for leisure moments. You can in fact play mp3 audio files without problems, to be saved on the expandable memory up to 2 GB. Also present is the AM/FM radio antenna, complete with RDS function. In leisure moments you can also use simple pre-installed games, or install new compatible ones. The 750 mAh lithium battery guarantees a working autonomy of up to 580 hours in Stand-by.
