Motorola WX288 review
Network and connections
Motorola offers a simple but functional phone, for users who don't have particular requirements. Network support is GSM Dualband, which guarantees sufficient signal coverage; UMTS mode is not available instead. The internal modem with GPRS data traffic management allows browsing in WAP, through the dedicated browser. Bluetooth proves useful for exchanging files with compatible devices. There is also a USB output to sync the phone directly with your home PC.
Design and features
It's immediately noticeable how handy and comfortable to carry in your pocket this phone is. The dimensions are indeed compact, with a weight of just 66 grams; the Candybar design also allows for a slim thickness, at 12.2 mm. On the front is the display, a 128x160 pixel CSTN, capable of displaying up to 65,000 colors. On the lower part instead is the standard keyboard, with function keys to directly access music functions.
Main features
An Entry Level phone is by definition a not very complex device, which offers basic but still good quality features. That's why the WX288 integrates address book management, calendar and alarm clock with customizable melodies, along with the voice aspect with speakerphone and voice recorder. Motorola's proprietary platform allows for limited content expandability, thanks to Java support for compatible applications. There is also support for writing SMS and multimedia messages with T9 quick composition. However, it is not possible to send and receive E-mail.
Entertainment and multimedia
The Motorola WX288 is really limited to the essentials, for users who aren't very demanding on the multimedia side either. This model lacks mp3 music support, but allows listening to your favorite radio broadcasts, thanks to the built-in AM/FM antenna. Radio audio can also be played through Speakerphone and RDS support is present. During leisure moments you can also use simple pre-installed games, or take photos in VGA quality. The 550 mAh lithium battery guarantees operating autonomy of up to 550 hours in Stand-by.
