Network and connections
Practically identical in terms of technical features to the WX180, this Motorola WX181 gets a fresh look. Network support is GSM Dualband, which guarantees sufficient signal coverage; UMTS mode is not available, however. As for data traffic, there's nothing doing. There is no internal modem for browsing the Internet. Bluetooth support for exchanging files with other devices is also missing. Even the output for the USB data cable is absent.

Design and features
You immediately notice how handy the phone is and how comfortable it is to carry in your pocket. Its dimensions are indeed compact, with a very contained weight. The Candybar design also helps limit the thickness, at 14.8 mm. On the front is the display, a 128x128 pixel CSTN, capable of displaying up to 65,000 colors. In the lower part, instead, is the standard keypad, with keys on a one-piece plate but still very usable. The directional pad has a renewed design.

Main features
An Entry Level phone is by definition a device that isn't very complex, offering basic but still good-quality features. That's why the WX181 includes an address book, calendar, and alarm clock with customizable melodies. Motorola's proprietary platform doesn't allow for major feature expansion, also lacking Java support for custom expansions. However, support for writing SMS with quick T9 composition is present. On the other hand, it's not possible to send and receive MMS and E-mail.

Entertainment and multimedia
The Motorola WX181 is truly limited to the essentials, for users who aren't very demanding on the multimedia front either. This model lacks support for mp3 music, but it does allow you to listen to your favorite radio broadcasts, thanks to the built-in AM/FM antenna. Radio audio can also be played back through the Speakerphone, and RDS support is present. During leisure moments, you can also use some simple pre-installed games. The 750 mAh lithium battery guarantees operating autonomy of up to 580 hours in Stand-by.
