Motorola WX160 review

Network and connections
A user looking for essential phone functions, without a big financial commitment and with plenty of ease of use, will definitely feel at home with this WX160 from Motorola. Network support is GSM Dualband, which guarantees sufficient signal coverage; UMTS mode is not available, however. As for data traffic, there's nothing doing. There is no internal modem for browsing the Internet. Bluetooth support for exchanging files with other devices is also missing. The only external connection present is the USB port, to be used for syncing the phone with your home PC.

Design and features
You immediately notice how handy and comfortable to carry in your pocket this phone is. Its dimensions are indeed compact, with a weight of just 65 grams; the Candybar design also allows for a slim thickness, at 14.5 mm. On the front is the display, a monochrome 1.3-inch screen, but with a background color. This is the only difference between this model and its bigger brother, the WX180, which has a multicolor screen. On the lower part, instead, is the standard keypad, with function keys to directly access the music functions.

Main features
An Entry Level phone is by definition a device that isn't very complex, offering basic but still good-quality functions. This is why the WX160 includes address book management, calendar and alarm clock with customizable ringtones, as well as the voice side of things with speakerphone and voice recorder. Motorola's proprietary platform doesn't allow for major feature expansion, also lacking Java support for custom expansions. What it does have, however, is support for writing SMS with T9 predictive text. It is not possible, however, to send and receive MMS and E-mail.

Entertainment and multimedia
The Motorola WX160 is truly limited to the essentials, for users who aren't very demanding on the multimedia front either. This model lacks support for mp3 music, but it does let you listen to your favorite radio broadcasts, thanks to the built-in AM/FM antenna. The radio audio can also be played back through the Speakerphone and RDS support is present. In your free moments you can also use some simple pre-installed games. The 650 mAh lithium battery guarantees battery life of up to 400 hours in Stand-by.
