Motorola W270 review
Network and connections
Motorola offers a simple but functional phone, for users who don't have particular requirements. Network support is Dualband GSM, which guarantees sufficient signal coverage; UMTS mode is not available, however. As for data traffic, GPRS support allows reaching good speeds, in order to browse the Web with the WAP browser, in addition to the presence of an internal modem. Wireless connectivity is absent, but it is still possible to sync with other devices thanks to the USB 2.0 cable.
Design and features
You immediately notice how handy and comfortable the phone is to carry in your pocket. Its dimensions are indeed compact, with a weight of only 94 grams; the clamshell design instead allows for containing width and height, at 45 and 95 millimeters respectively. On the outer part there is no display at all, only three light-up icons that notify you when receiving a call or a message, or if the battery is running low. Opening the W270, however, you find the 1.6-inch screen with 65K colors. On the lower part instead there's a standard keypad, with function keys to directly access the music functions.
Main features
An Entry Level phone is by definition a not very complex device, which offers basic but still good quality features. That's why the W270 includes contact management, calendar and alarm with customizable ringtones, as well as the voice aspect with speakerphone and Crystal Talk technology, to improve sound quality. Motorola's proprietary platform doesn't allow for major feature expansions, however Java support allows installing small compatible games and utilities. Support for writing SMS and multimedia messages is also present.
Entertainment and multimedia
The dedicated function keys immediately outline the multimedia character of the Motorola W270. In fact, besides being a simple cell phone, it is also an excellent music player, with support for various audio formats. The internal memory for music is decidedly scarce, but a microSD card allows increasing its capacity as desired. Furthermore, it is possible to listen to your favorite radio stations at any time, thanks to the integrated AM/FM tuner. Battery life is high and guarantees great portability, thanks to the 940 mAh for operation up to 450 hours in Stand-by.
