Motorola U9 review
Network and connections
This Motorola model has complete technical features as far as networking is concerned. The GSM Quadband receiver on 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz frequencies allows for excellent reception all over the world, even though it does not support UMTS for Dual Mode operation. Bluetooth allows for quickly exchanging files with other compatible devices, as does the USB 2.0 connection cable. Web browsing is also possible, thanks to the WAP browser and the GPRS protocol for data traffic management.
Design and features
The U9 inherits the distinctive “pebble” shape of the previous Pebl U6. The difference lies in the external screen, this time with Touch Screen technology for greater interactivity with the device. It is also equipped with OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology, capable of producing intense light without compromising the thickness of the phone. The dimensions are in fact truly compact, with a weight of just 87.5 grams to ensure great portability. The internal display, on the other hand, is 2 inches, with a 256 thousand color display. The sales package includes a USB cable, as well as headphones and a 1 GB microSD card.
Main features
A major novelty as far as this device's software is concerned. Based on the Linux platform, it allows for optimal resource management, complete with customization of icons and menus. Use is more intuitive and quick compared to previous Motorola experiences, which certainly didn't shine in terms of practicality. The features are complete, from the voice side with multi-conferencing and hands-free speaker, to text support such as SMS, multimedia messages or even E-mail, with easy T9 writing. Furthermore, compatibility with Java allows for installing useful applications as desired.
Entertainment and multimedia
The strong side of the Motorola U9 is certainly its aptitude as a multimedia device, especially in the musical field. In fact, it is designed as a perfect MP3 player, with support for many other audio and video formats. The available internal memory is small, with only 25 MB, but it can be conveniently expanded with a microSD card up to 4 GB. A 2 megapixel camera, on the other hand, allows for obtaining good quality photographs, even though an LED Flash is not provided. It is therefore designed for music on the go, even though it lacks a convenient Jack output for using standard stereo headphones. Also great in terms of battery life, with as much as 350 hours in Stand-by.
