Motorola ROKR W6 review
Network and connections
Launched on the market in 2009, this Motorola is suited to an audience that loves movement and free time, without the need for demanding functions, while also keeping the purchase cost low. The reception system is a GSM Quadband, which guarantees optimal coverage in any part of the world. Even though there is no support for UMTS networks, you can comfortably browse the Internet thanks to the internal modem, with data traffic managed via GPRS or EDGE. This way the browser can open HTML pages without any problems. To communicate with other devices, Bluetooth comes in handy, as does the USB 2.0 data cable for syncing with your home PC.
Design and features
The structure remains decidedly compact, thanks to the clamshell opening. This way everything can be enclosed in a small space, making the most of the portability of this Rokr W6 without any compromise. On the front there is a small CSTN display with 65,000 colors, handy for viewing basic information. Inside, on the other hand, there is the main screen, a 1.9-inch TFT, capable of displaying up to 256,000 colors. Also on the inside, but in the lower part, is the standard alphanumeric keypad, with well-divided and practical keys to use. It stands out for its yellow coloring, which contrasts a lot with the rest of the body. Inside the retail package you'll find stereo earphones and the data cable.
Main features
A good quality phone must be able to offer complete functions suited to every circumstance. So here the Rokr W6 has a proprietary platform equipped with management applications such as the phonebook, organizer, calculator, and time functions like alarm and stopwatch. Java support also allows for good expandability with compatible applications, so you can fully customize your device. Worth mentioning in particular are the functions dedicated to fitness, with customizable training programs to fully manage every part of your sports activity. Support for predictive text helps a lot with quickly composing messages, making it easy to handle E-mails as well, complete with attachments. The phone section is also solid, with speakerphone and voice recorder, as well as support for multi-conference calls.
Entertainment and multimedia
As already mentioned at the beginning, this Motorola is suited to those who love free time. Indeed, you can always carry your favorite music files with you, played back faithfully with the media player. The memory space is only 20 MB, but it can be easily expanded via microSD cards. On the front there is also a digital camera, with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels. Image quality is not high, but it's always handy to have the chance to take a few shots when needed. You can also record short videos. Long-lasting battery life is guaranteed by the 880 mAh lithium battery, for a duration of up to 350 hours in Stand-by.
