Motorola PEBL VU20 review
Network and connections
Initially distributed only in Korea by the operator SK Telecom, the Motorola Pebl VU20 features good technical and functional characteristics. First of all, it is a GSM Triband device, capable of working on the 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz frequencies. Operation in Dual Mode also allows it to take advantage of UMTS networks, thus expanding coverage and phone functionality. This means it is possible to browse the Internet quickly, thanks to the modem with HSDPA data traffic management. In this way the HTML browser is able to open any page at a speed equal to a home ADSL connection. Naturally, Bluetooth and the USB data cable output are not missing.
Design and features
Classic clamshell style, which never goes out of fashion due to its convenience, especially when carried in a pocket. The dimensions are indeed compact, with a thickness of 18.9 mm and a weight of 103 grams. The edges are rounded to offer greater ergonomics when gripping it. On the external front there is an OLED screen with 65 thousand colors, which displays very useful basic information. Inside, however, is the main display, a TFT at 240x320 pixels capable of displaying sharp images with up to 256,000 colors. In the lower part, instead, is the standard numeric keypad. The sales package includes headphones and a data cable.
Main features
The proprietary platform proves to be complete with every tool, such as a contacts address book, agenda and calendar to best manage appointments and activities, alarm clock and calculator. Java support, however, offers the possibility of installing compatible software, so as to better customize your device. Support for predictive text input greatly facilitates text composition, making it easy to write SMS messages but also more complete E-mails. It is also possible to manage attachments in standard formats. The telephone aspect offers speakerphone, voice recorder and support for multiconferencing. A dedicated camera also allows for video calls.
Entertainment and multimedia
The multimedia features are cutting-edge, with a 2 megapixel digital camera, to capture images whenever necessary. Videos can also be recorded, saved directly to the available memory, expandable up to 4 GB thanks to microSD type cards. This therefore makes it possible to carry along numerous audio and video files as well, to be played through the dedicated multimedia player, with the Touch Sensitive Music Keys function. Also interesting is the integrated GPS function, to use the device as a satellite navigator. Battery life is acceptable, lasting up to 130 hours in Stand-by.
