Motorola DROID review
Network and connections
On November 6, 2009, the Motorola Droid was officially presented, a new device with Google's Android 2.0 platform. This device combines advanced features with high-quality technologies, such as the GSM Quadband receiver. It guarantees optimal signal coverage, also thanks to UMTS support working in Dual Mode. For browsing the Internet, nothing is faster among portable devices: HSDPA technology for speeds equal to home ADSL. The HTML browser will only have to worry about correctly displaying pages. In addition, it is possible to take advantage of distributed networks thanks to the integrated Wi-Fi antenna. Bluetooth and the USB data cable output are also included.
Design and features
The structure of the Motorola Droid is sturdy and substantial. The front hosts the large display, a TFT of as much as 3.7 inches. It has a WVGA resolution in 16:9 format and displays up to 16 million colors. It also has Capacitive Touch Screen technology, for optimal management of functions with simple taps on the screen. The thickness of the Droid is average, at 13.7 mm, while the weight is a bit more substantial, at 169 grams. This is also due to the fact that the body opens, with a lateral Slider movement. This way, a Full QWERTY keyboard with a directional pad is revealed inside.
Main features
The platform featured on this Motorola is Android by Google, designed to make the best use of advanced multimedia features. Every Business tool is at the user's service: from advanced contact management, to an appointment organizer, as well as multiple alarms and a currency converter. Messages and E-mail are always under control. It is also possible to manage Office and PDF documents. Applications such as YouTube, Facebook, Google Maps and many others are always available. Java support also allows the installation of additional software. As for the telephone side, it offers speakerphone, voice recorder, and videoconferencing support.
Entertainment and multimedia
Also an excellent tool for leisure time, Motorola's Droid has a 5 megapixel digital camera. This resolution always ensures perfect images, thanks also to dedicated functions. It is also possible to record short videos. The already built-in media player is handy for playing plenty of audio and video files. The memory available for personal data is only 20 MB, but it can be easily expanded with microSD cards up to 16 GB. Also interesting is the GPS receiver, which integrates satellite functions into the device.
