ASUS AGP 100 review
Network and connections
A common feature of all Asus devices is certainly the good quality of the technology used. The network receiver is GSM Triband, able to work on the 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz frequencies. The signal quality is fairly good in any situation. As for wireless, you can use the IrDA infrared port to exchange files with other compatible devices. There is also an output for the USB 2.0 data cable, so you can also sync with your home PC. Internet connection, on the other hand, is guaranteed by the internal modem, with GPRS packet traffic management. The dedicated WAP browser then allows pages to be displayed.
Design and features
The lines are simple but still well cared for. The body is a clamshell with hinged opening, of good quality in terms of the materials used. Inside you'll find the standard numeric keypad with a directional pad and function keys. Above, instead, is the screen, a TFT with a maximum display of 65,000 colors. The dimensions are absolutely compact, precisely to offer greater portability and ease of use. The thickness is in fact 22 mm, with a weight of 100 grams. The sales package contains the essentials: battery charger, user manual and USB data cable.
Main features
You can't expect high-level operation from a low-end phone. However, the basic features are complete and practical to use. Starting with the address book for contacts, or the agenda for organizing your appointments, the calendar and the alarm clock. There are also the calculator and the currency converter. For the voice sector, you can instead count on the built-in speakerphone, the voice recorder and support for multiconferencing. Writing messages is convenient thanks to T9, so you can better manage SMS and multimedia messages. The proprietary platform, as already mentioned, does not leave much room for expansion, although Java support allows you to install small compatible utilities. Finally, the Asus Handset Compaion software allows you to configure the phone so as to optimize communication with the Personal Computer, so as to always have up-to-date information.
Entertainment and multimedia
Multimedia capabilities are not this device's strong point, since it lacks an mp3 player and an AM/FM radio receiver. However, you can manage polyphonic ringtones as you like, which can also be downloaded directly from the Internet. The digital camera is also absent in the standard configuration, although it is available as an option. You can use games, already present at purchase but also installable as you like according to Java support. The lithium battery also guarantees good battery life: up to 150 hours in Stand-by.
