Alcatel OT-252 review

Network and connections
A truly essential phone, which certainly keeps a low price but is a bit lacking compared to today's market standards. The network receiver is a GSM Dualband, but without UMTS support. As for data traffic, nothing doing, since the internal modem is also missing, and therefore GPRS or EDGE. Not even Bluetooth is available, leaving only the USB port to handle connections with the home PC.

Design and features
The BlackBerry-style shape of this Alcatel pairs well with the ergonomics of the hands, so as to always have an optimal grip. The dimensions are compact, with a thickness of 12 mm and only 89 grams of weight. The front houses the screen, a 1.8-inch TFT, capable of displaying up to 65,000 colors. The keyboard is a full QWERTY, for easily composing message texts. A touch of color on the side edge breaks up the very sober and essential look.

Main features
The proprietary platform offers complete basic functions that are practical to use. No expansion is possible since Java support is not available. Address book and calculator, however, are convenient and easy to use. Writing SMS will be really quick, thanks to the QWERTY keyboard. However, it is not possible to send or receive MMS or E-mail. As for phone functions, there are speakerphone, voice notes, and conference call support.

Entertainment and multimedia
The OT-252 is really only suited to an undemanding audience, looking for just a tool to make calls and send SMS. Indeed, even the digital camera is missing, which by now is present on any device, even at a competitive price. The only positive note for the entertainment department is the presence of an FM radio tuner, complete with RDS function. The 500 mAh battery is very good, guaranteeing operation of up to 400 hours in Stand-by.
