Acer n10 review
Network and connections
The Acer N10 is a simple but versatile PDA introduced by the manufacturer in 2004. It does not have telephone capabilities but can be used for managing everyday tasks.
Thanks to the USB port, it is possible to connect the Acer N10 to a personal computer to synchronize the data present on it. Also on board is an IrDA port.
There is a handy socket for connecting a headset. The microphone is built-in.
The large and bright display is capable of displaying 65,000 colors at a maximum resolution of 240x320 pixels.
Design and equipment
The Acer N10 measures 130 millimeters in width, 78 millimeters in length and 16.9 millimeters in thickness. The overall weight is 168 grams including the supplied battery. Based on the Microsoft Windows Pocket PC 2003 operating system, it gets the necessary computing power from the Intel PXA255 processor. The RAM memory is 64MB while the flash ROM is 32MB.
The design of this model is rather simple but still engaging. The lines are fairly angular with rounded edges. The grip is stable and precise. The compact dimensions together with a compact design ensure good portability.
The 3.5-inch display occupies most of the front part of the device, accompanied by function keys located below the display itself, which allow the selection and performance of numerous functions and activities.
The standard package includes the device with its stylus, a handy case, a USB cable and the charger for the 1520mAh Lithium battery, which guarantees an autonomy of about 150 hours in standby and about 10 hours during use. An ordinary manual and a Cd with various drivers are also included.
Main features
The Acer N10 is a device that does not have telephone functionality and therefore does not offer the possibility of composing SMS and MMS messages.
The preloaded applications are several and range from Pocket Word, to Pocket Excel, to the voice recorder and the calculator. As one might expect, an alarm clock function is also available. J2ME support is absent.
Entertainment and multimedia
The entertainment department is rather modest and does not offer any particularly sophisticated functionality.
However, thanks to the built-in speaker, the headphone jack and the expansion slot for SD/MMC cards, it is possible to play mp3 tracks wherever you are. Furthermore, the presence of Windows Media Player 9.0 for Pocket PC allows you to enjoy playback of various types of multimedia formats.
Viewing ebooks and documents is also made quite simple through the use of Microsoft Reader 2.0.
